MOLLY from MFrank Photography
Hi, I’m Molly! I joined Hive Market during the summer of 2021. I heard about it through my sister, Emily, who runs The Golden Snips and is part of Hive but previously knew Laura and Claudine through the Oyster Bay Market.
I’m a college student but run my own photography business, MFrank Photography. I started it in the summer of 2020. I have been taking clients for almost two years and have had the amazing privilege of being part of weddings, family reunions, elopements, birthdays, anniversaries and life’s everyday special moments.
I joined Hive to help Laura with the back end of Hive (website, Facebook, Instagram, marketing etc), to sell canvas prints of my nature photography, and to run workshops to help other people learn and join the photography community.
I plan to run a bunch of workshops as the weather becomes warmer, so be sure to keep an eye out! I have multiple options for workshops to include all levels of photographers. One workshop includes learning the basics of photography — aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. Another workshop includes walking around, taking photos near the shop, putting your techniques to the test and learning by doing. I have the idea to run a workshop that includes a model or models to learn how to work with people in front of your camera. I also want to create a monthly photography club where we would meet at the end of every month to look at people’s work and have a group critique to chat about what you are doing really well with your images, what is working and what could make each image better for the future. If you are more interested in learning one-on-one, I also offer private lessons!
I have a lot of ideas and am really excited for the coming spring to begin implementing all of these.
I want to give people the opportunity to learn photography who never had the chance. It is such a rewarding medium. And besides taking the photos, it forces you to see the world in a different light. So even when you aren’t taking photographs, you interpret, view and absorb the world in a whole new way that I find incredibly beautiful. You get to see things at core value rather than face value. The details that make up the whole, not just the whole.
If you were to take a portrait of a person but it couldn’t be of their face, then what would it be of? What makes up people and their relationships with one another? How do you capture the atmosphere of a location if the viewer has never been there? How do you show the human existence without saying a word? What can you find in the world around you that everyone can relate to? How can you relate to someone who has never met you? What universal experiences can you show the world?
Everyone has a story to tell, share and show. How are you going to tell it?
- Molly :)
